Closing Karam Foundation’s Operations in Syria
December 13, 2019With great sadness, Karam Foundation announces the termination of its educational and humanitarian programs inside Syria due to increased security risks.
Since its founding in 2007, Karam Foundation has proudly served hundreds of thousands of people inside Syria. Over the years, we have been humbled by the resilient and resourceful communities who have endured the brutality of war and internal displacement since 2011. We could not have supported these civilian families and youth without the heroic efforts of our Karam Syria Team who have themselves now been displaced by the escalation of airstrikes and attacks in Idlib over the past year.
While we are outraged and deeply saddened by the violence that has forced us to halt our humanitarian efforts inside Syria, we remain committed to our mission to build a better future. We will continue to invest in our education and development programs in Turkey that serve thousands of Syrian refugee youth and their communities.
We demand that the international community acts now to protect civilian life in Syria. We will always stand with the Syrian people in their struggle for freedom and dignity from all oppression and tyranny.
