Generosity is Contagious
My name is Ferhad Muhammad. I’m 31 years old and I’m originally from Aleppo, Syria. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Turkish Literature from Gaziantep University.
I am where I am today thanks to the scholarship offered by Karam.
The opportunity encouraged me to continue my education and plan my future properly. I have known many struggles in my life, and although they had the power to, they didn’t stop me from continuing towards my goal.
The coming days will be more difficult than the ones that passed, but we always go on. And no matter the hardship we go through, we must always help others.
Throughout my journey at university, I dedicated a lot of my time volunteering to tutor Syrian refugees through the Turkish Red Crescent, and I received an award for it. I also distributed backpacks filled with school supplies to elementary school students in Gaziantep.
This past year, I also applied and got accepted to volunteered in the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar, 2021, which was such an exciting opportunity for me. I was also awarded, among four other young men, for best readers at Şahinbey İlçe Halk Kütüphane Library. I also received the habitat award for volunteering as a translator for a year and half.
One day, I would like to give back to the Karam family by offering my time and my skills. Without them, I wouldn’t be the man I am today, and wouldn’t be able to give back to my community. Generosity has a ripple effect, it’s just a matter of helping that one person who almost gave up on everything after losing everything.
