Karam Studios
Karam Studios is the heart and soul of our programming, offering world-class, hands-on learning experiences and social support to Syrian refugee youth.

After witnessing (and sometimes experiencing) violence, fleeing war, and seeking safety in a new country, teenage refugees hope to live in dignity and resilience rather than fall victim to their circumstances. This, however, is not an easy feat, as many refugees are extremely vulnerable, suffering from fear, trauma, depression, and social isolation. The innovative education programs offered at Karam House provide resettled refugee youth with the skills, security, and social outlet needed to overcome the trauma of war and realize their potential as bright, proactive leaders of today and tomorrow.
Developed in partnership with NuVu Studio, Innovative Education is designed to help resettled refugee youth overcome the trauma of war, expand their horizons, and step confidently into their potential as future leaders.
Created by graduates of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and offered in Arabic, the cutting-edge curriculum includes intensive design studios and expert-led workshops across many disciplines, from programming and robotics to traditional crafts and filmmaking. In addition to building new skills, students learn to think critically, work collaboratively, and embrace their strengths as they find their place in the world and become productive, proactive community leaders.
21st Century Education
Innovative Education students attend hands-on design studios where they discuss social and global issues while tackling related creative and scientific projects. The curriculum begins with introductory concepts like geometric drawing and builds toward engineering and design programs.
Together, students ponder, propose, and prototype their ideas, with full access to the Karam House maker space, where they learn to use 3D printers and laser cutters, as well as traditional tools.
World-Class Workshops
Industry experts and innovators from around the world serve as Visiting Mentors, volunteering to design and lead weeklong craft workshops for Karam students. We’ve hosted Michelin-starred chefs, award-winning journalists, filmmakers, designers, artists, and many more. Our Visiting Mentors help bring the world to young refugees, offering them the inspiration and support they need to fearlessly explore their passions while developing new skills. This program changes lives.
