Innovation shouldn’t be limited by geography. For students in post-conflict zones, access to advanced technology and creative problem-solving tools is not just a luxury; it’s a pathway to a better future.
Last October marked the official launch of Karam Caravan, a cutting-edge mobile innovation lab designed to bridge the digital divide and bring world-class learning directly to youth in Syria.
Bringing the Innovation Studio to the Schoolyard
Currently operating across five schools in Eastern Aleppo, Rural Aleppo, Idlib, Jindires, and Al Ruhaybah, Karam Caravan is rethinking how education is delivered in crisis zones. By pairing essential school rehabilitation with high-tech programming, we are transforming traditional schoolyards into collaborative design studios.
We hired our first four mentors in Syria, one of whom is a Karam Scholars graduate. We love seeing our students coming full circles, from students to mentors.
This mobile approach ensures that digital literacy and creative education reach the students who need them most.

A Future-Ready Curriculum Designed with MIT Alumni
Education is only as good as the curriculum behind it. That is why the programming for Karam Caravan was developed in partnership with NuVu Studios in Cambridge.
This collaboration ensures that Syrian youth receive a global standard of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. Under the guidance of trained mentors, students move beyond theory to hands-on application:
- Design Thinking: Innovative problem-solving methodologies used by top engineers.
- Robotics & Coding: Hard skills required for the future workforce.
- Emerging Tech: Immersive experiences with AR and VR.

Karam Caravan: The Beginning
The team started by running activities at Khalid Ibn Al-Walid School in Jindires. In addition, they launched sessions in two more schools, Al Nahda and Al Quoneitra, reaching 347 unique students so far.
During our Art Machines session in Al Quoneitra School, many students were experiencing hands-on creative learning for the very first time. What began as a simple introduction to mechanical drawing quickly became a space full of curiosity, laughter, and teamwork. “At last, we are being treated as human beings,” said Anas, one of the students, reminding us that these sessions are not just about motors or art. They are about dignity and giving young people the freedom to create and feel seen again.
Rebuilding Schools, Rebuilding Opportunity
In post-conflict Syria, the focus is often on rebuilding infrastructure, which we are also doing, but Karam Caravan goes a step further by identifying hidden talent. We believe that education in emergencies must go beyond the basics.
By introducing concepts like design thinking and creative agency, we are empowering a new generation of Syrian youth. They aren’t just learning to use technology; they are learning to become the architects, engineers, creators, and leaders of their own future.
