When I left Syria I was only 10 years old, so I did not collect a lot of memories. My family and I came to Turkey back in 2014. Coming to this new country, I did not know the language. My life was boring.I was going to school and coming back home, nothing much was happening. Everything changed when I joined Karam House.
Right from the beginning with the first Karam Studio I felt the change in my personality. I became a stronger person, and started believing that I matter and my opinion matters. I have a voice. I trust myself now.
Taking the different studios, I learned how to work with a team and be a good teammate. To add my suggestions knowing that they will be heard. Karam studios changed me for the better.
During this past Ramadan, one day, I had an allergic reaction. I wasn’t sure where it came from, but we rushed to the hospital where they gave me a shot but that did not help. The doctor suggested that another shot was needed, but was interrupted by the nurse and another doctor saying that because of my light weight, my body won’t be able to handle another shot.
Around that time, I was in Karam’s studio “Med-Tech” with Bilal and Hany and they asked us to choose a problem and find a solution for it through creating an app on paper. So, the problem I just had in the hospital was perfect to work with.
The first step was brainstorming ideas about an app that can register each person’s vitals, personal information; such as age and weight, and things that they are allergic to.
I also added a feature where they can add the medications they take, why they take it, and the closest pharmacy to them where they can find this medication. Another feature is a tab with instructions on how and how many times a day they need to take the medicine.
All of this was on paper, until I took another studio Code Jam 3 “Medical Technologies” with Bilal and Aya. And they suggested that with this advanced studio, I can create the app I had planned and worked on previously.
During the process of putting the app together, I faced a lot of difficulties, but the challenge kept me going and I was determined to achieve my goal.
Towards the end of the studio, I had finished a big chunk of the application but it wasn’t complete. For my future plans, I want to finish the app and advance it.
However, my focus right now is college, learning more coding languages even though they don’t offer them at my university, and to finish this application and move on creating another one.
